Lots of things – exercise, excitement, eating, and even the stress of a doctor visit – can impact your blood pressure. So for many people, the best way to get an accurate reading is to check it at home. The American Heart Association urges anyone with high blood pressure, or who’s at risk for developing it, to make this a habit – but that requires the right technique. Infected Amniotic Fluid Linked to Preterm Birth
Researchers from Stanford University have found a link between the premature birth of babies – about 12 percent of all births in the U.S. – and infected amniotic fluid. They looked at fluid from 166 women in preterm labor and found that 15 percent of the samples were infected with bacteria or fungi, challenging the idea that the amniotic sac is basically sacrosanct. Women with the worst infections tended to deliver more premature, sicker infants. The researchers are now trying to determine whether infection can be caught, and possibly treated, before onset of premature labor. Learn more …
